News flash! Glider lifts airplane!

With all the hubbub of aviation activity in this one-mile circle this week, the glider club didn’t want to miss-out on the action! Okay, for people not familiar with this activity: The engine-powered airplane (bottom) is towing the glider (no engine) to a greater altitude, by means of cable. The glider is increasing, due to the fact that is what gliders are designed to do: Climb. When the airplane releases the cable, the glider will remain airborne, riding the thermal updrafts (heated air increasing from the earth’s surface), along with the wind! And only the gentle sound of air rushing by! Intense telephoto, a tiny more than 1/two mile away.
In the last three days, President Obama’s 5-helicopter ‘Marine 1′ flight passed straight overhead – twice – although flying between LAX (Los Angeles Global Airport) and ritzy Corona Del Mar… followed by three groups of four Blackhawk helicopters landing, along with a couple of C-17 Globemaster III’s landing/taking-off at the adjacent military airfield (see the tags), four or a lot more C-130′s, and a few 3-helo flyovers. Then a industrial airliner departed from the military airfield (infrequent, but not unusual). I’d call it a record.
Oh, I forgot: a private aircraft strayed into the president’s restricted air space and was forced to land by two FA-18 Super Hornets… the plane was carrying 40 pounds of pot, aka weed, aka marijuana… and I think the pilot won both the dumbest criminal and the wrong spot incorrect time awards.
