Question by Timothy D: When will the United States legalize marijuana?
With continuously developing support for the legalization of marijuana in the US, and the bill that is most likely to be passed in California up coming year to legalize it in the state, how extended could it probably be until the complete nation legalizes it? If it really is shown to drastically aid CA’s economic system, could it be soon, like while Obama is president? What are your time frame estimates, and thoughts and opinions on the subject??

Most likely never. There will always be some resistance. There’s a lot of money and politics in the “War on Drugs”.
Too many people benefit from the witch hunt against potheads… it’s a shame too because I want to try marijuana. It’s really no more dangerous than alcohol.
Never. The gangs and cartels bribe the government officials to keep it illegal. And our government uses the war on drugs as a way to shread the Bill Of Rights and bring about a police state. A huge part of our economy depends on lots of cops, courts, and prisons.
And the country is full of nosy busy bodies.
The government has done such a good job demonizing marijuana that there will still be allot of opposition to legalization, they really should though ,,,marijuana is way better for you than alcohol who’s effects are way more severe than mary jane I have used both and I know this is true MJ makes you feel less anxious and calms you,,, alcohol makes you crazy,,,, MJ is good for many things ,,,for eating disorders,,, anxiety,,,,sleeplessness ,, depression nausea are just a few of the things it will help,,,, plus it just keeps your head on straight ,,people are going to use pot they can like it or not its here and its going to stay why don’t they just legalize and tax it it would put the gangs and the mexican mafia out of business the government would get the money and they could stop worring about balancing the budget that old time mind set they have is incredible they can spend millions of dollars fighting a war they can’t win or give the people what they want and put the money in the social security accounts or start something really important like another war in antartica or something when are people going to stop putting pot users in jail they are not criminals they are ordinary working people like you and me who otherwise don’t break any laws to make these people into criminals is wrong if they want to bust drug dealers who deal coke and crack or heroin I am all for that those drugs do real harm but pot is not the same
It may never be fully legalized by the federal government, but enforcement is really what it is about. Many states already legalized “medical” use and ignore the rest. The federal gov’t is now following (at least the DoJ.)
I would hope we could just legalize it, but I fear politicians (though I’m sure over 75% have smoked it) will continue to buy the “gateway” theory (though I know of at least 20 people who have smoked who never did anything more serious.)
