As for the rest of this ‘rant’..oops I mean question……yes fighting the government was easier years a go and demonstraations as everybody had the choice of joining a union but Thatcher got rid of nearly all of them. The unions protected us. Nowadays we have no protection. Now let’s put you in a senario situation shall we. You are working 70 hours a week so you can eat and get your rent paid and not left with barely any extra money. The little you may have needs to be saved in case you get sick and need to be off work or you end up losing your room/home or not eat as they abolished sick pay nearly everywhere. So you take a day or 2 off demonstrating hence lose this money so back to either lose your room/house or not eat.
Let’s put you in my situation. I’m a 24/7 live-in carer. To demonstrate for one day I’d have to take a week off hence lose a weeks pay,I have no home as such as I’d have to move out of here for that week and pay a lot for either a hotel or dorm so I have a bed at night. Could walk out on this job for the day but A) I’d get done for neglect/abuse and would lose my job and never be able to do this work again and B) Do you think people like myself would just walk out on people this vulnerable and totally dependant on you? AND I’d get no benefits because I’d have done this to myself hence living on the streets. This isn’t selfish but the thought of living on the streets for possible eternity is not a pleasant thought,and it’s all for one day demonstration. Think again about other people’s situations who are on a low wage and working all the hours to pay their rent/mortgage and eat. They’ve basically got us by the balls.
