I very much doubt that we’ll legalize or decriminalize marijuana in Texas. For one thing, we’re generally a very conservative state. For another, we have enough problems with the drug cartels from Mexico, we don’t want to encourage the gangs any further.

Texas laws regarding marijuana possession are a whole lot better than they used to be. At one time, if you were caught with any small amount of pot, it was an automatic 6 months in jail. During the 2007 legislative session, Texas enacted a law allowing law enforcement officers to issue citations instead of arresting adults who possess less than four ounces of marijuana.

As far as decriminalization is concerned, don’t look for it to happen anytime soon, even though evidence has shown over and over again that such practices actually cut down on the power of gangs and drug cartels.
