How come when it says how to develop a marijuana plant to keep the light on for 16 hrs then modify it to 18…?

Query by Lady: How come when it says how to grow a marijuana plant to preserve the light on for 16 hrs then change it to 18…?
It says to commence off with 16 hours of light, then after two weeks change it to 18 hrs of light….then after its twelve inchs to go down to 12 hours of light…

wouldnt it make a lot more sense to strt with 18 then go down to 16?

    You start out low for the little shoots , so you don’t burn the leaves or stems. You go to more so the young plants can get as much UV as possible to help it grow to a healthy plant when, you would turn down the amount of light so that it won’t become over dry, harsh or killed.
