Question by sjb12681: Support! former boss plans to sue me for libel.?
Just got an e-mail from my former boss (owner of a modest neighborhood restaurant) saying he plans to sue me for libel. Here are the situations:

I was approached by the owner in private and asked if I could procure him some marijuana whilst his wife was out of town. I told him no, I dont do drugs, and dont know any person who could get him some, then told him to go inquire somebody else. Numerous weeks later on, I quit on an unrelated note.

A number of weeks later, another team member who was a friend also quit, and the owner took to twitter to berate him about his skilled skills. I responded on the tweet telling him to leave others alone. In the tweet I also talked about the fact that perhaps he shouldn’t be asking his staff to get him drugs. This is what he is apparently arranging to sue me more than.

SO….

two concerns:

one. Does he have a case? The statement actually occurred (he DID strategy me for drugs) and with the business becoming so tiny, is it even libelous to his enterprise?

2. In a response to my tweet, he wrote this :

” Id also like to nominate ************ (my screen name) simply because he and I, in spite of our variations, have a deep enjoy for one particular yet another. Plus he gets me Meth.”

Isnt this just as libelous? He is accusing me of getting a Meth Dealer. Maybe he meant it as tongue in cheek, but I am underneath the impression that sarcasm and jest cannot be legally construed in written word.

Any support is drastically appreciated. I am just a school kid who serves tables and who has minor cash to commit on a attorney, any advice would be remarkable.
my real query is the 2nd one. Isnt he either admitting the claim in his response, by stating “he gets me Meth” thus negating the libel (as it would be an admission of truth) or, on the flipside, just as libel in stating that I “get him meth” and attempting to defame my character by portraying me as his dealer?

I know that it can be construed different approaches, but I just want to make certain I have legal recourse if, in my viewpoint, his statement is just as slanderous as mine was (or wasnt) no a lot more no less.

The greatest big difference is that outside of him, I have 29 followers on twitter, primarily news feed that are automated (therefore, no man or woman reading the tweets I post) there could be six live people who may possibly have seen my post, as I seldom post at all.

HE has more than 1300 followers and posts nonstop. so IMO, I now have 1300+ individuals who may believe I am a drug dealer due to his post (which is false, non withstanding) even though I posted to perhaps 1/2 a dozen people that he asked a server (me) for weed.

He can sue but he has to prove that what you said result in him damage. It’s an uphill battle on his side. So the lesson you should take away from this is be careful what you say on the net. Quit engaging in conversation with him. An never ever list him as a former employer, didn’t feel of that did you?
In no way say anything at all undesirable about a place you use to operate. They are element of your perform history & can effect you future.

He is going to take you to court. Admitting he is a drug addict. Meth. And your word against his he tryed to buy drugs from you. And he best have strong proof he has slept with you. The Judge will love this one. But lets hope he do’s go to court here. Make it much easyer for your counter suit.
