thefilmarchive.org Opium (poppy tears, lachryma papaveris) is the dried latex obtained from the opium poppy (Papaver somniferum). Opium contains up to 12% morphine, an alkaloid, which is usually processed chemically to generate heroin for the illegal drug trade. The latex also includes codeine and non-narcotic alkaloids such as papaverine, thebaine and noscapine. The conventional strategy of getting the latex is to scratch (“score”) the immature seed pods (fruits) by hand the latex leaks out and dries to a sticky yellowish residue that is later scraped off the fruit. The present day method is to harvest and procedure mature plants by machine. “Meconium” historically referred to associated, weaker preparations made from other elements of the poppy or distinct species of poppies. The production of opium itself has essentially not transformed since ancient occasions. However, by way of selective breeding of the Papaver somniferum plant, the subject material of the phenanthrene alkaloids morphine, codeine, and to a lesser extent thebaine, has been tremendously elevated. In contemporary times, significantly of the thebaine, which often serves as the raw material for the synthesis for hydrocodone, hydromorphone, and other semi-synthetic opiates, originates from extracting Papaver orientale or Papaver bracteatum. Opium for illegal use is often converted into heroin, which is significantly less bulky, producing it easier to smuggle, and which multiplies its potency to about twice that of morphine. Heroin can be taken by intravenous

@ilovefrankandbeans However, there’s still that desire to get high because marijuana is 100% natural, has very little side effects, and makes you feel great. But like anything, it’s always mind over matter.

@ilovefrankandbeans I have recently stopped smoking for about 3 months, and at first there were some physical withdrawals symptoms such as insomnia, lack of appetite and difficulty concentrating, but these go away soon (once i started drinking more :P ).

@ilovefrankandbeans Heroin only becomes physically addictive after the user has used it consistently till the point that their body’s chemistry has changed. Personally, I don’t know how severe withdrawals from heroin are because I never used it more than one day in a row. As for marijuana, yes it is very reinforcing, and I have smoked it all day everyday for about 3 years.

@ilovefrankandbeans “A drug is only addictive if someone experiences physical withdrawals from not using it.” – That is not quite true bro. In my experience, and for most people, it’s the psychological dependence to a substance that determines how addictive it is. Think about it, the people who become regular users of heroin are generally weak people, and they become mentally addicted to the intense euphoria when they mainline.

@beltown420 Actually marijuana is not addictive, but to some people it is highly reinforcing. Cocaine is the same way. A drug is only addictive if someone experiences physical withdrawals from not using it. People don’t experience physical withdrawals after quitting marijuana.

heroin is so overrated…i try it every now and then with no fucking problem of addiction. If you ask me, marijuana is way more addictive :)

@anuangelseyes I completely agree. I think it’s a judgement error to take it but one everyone should be free to make like with fags and booze. It’s a waste money and police time. I totally see the temptation to try it though. Read Thomas De Quincy’s “Confessions of an English opium eaeter”

we USED to be FREE to go to the local store and buy a bottle of BAYER HEROIN-then in 1913 America was sold to the BANKERS ….less than a year later in the GREEDY PIECES OF SHIT decided to TAX narcotics -so they created the HARRISON NARCOTICS TAX ACT OF 1914-so that THEY could CONTROL narcotics and create a GODDAMN CIRCUS of police, lawyers, courts and prisons-YOU should be FREE to decide what YOU put in your body NOT THE GOVERNMENT!!!
